Freeware to Extract MP3 from QuickTime MOV

Have you ever watched a move with a fantastic soundtrack? Have you ever wanted to extract it for your ringtone? Just like me, I like watching movies, and like some of the songs of those movies, I want to keep these awesome music or songs by myself, for my ringtone, or enjoy them when I am free. As we known to all, MP3 is for audio file, and if we would like to extract audio from video file, MP3 is our first choice, as it is very common and widely compatible. So how to convert mov to mp3 on Mac (Snow Leopard, Lion included)?

Method One - Free to Extract MP3 from MOV Online

As I mentioned on my guide of "How to Convert MOV to FLV/SWF", Convert.Files is a free program online that can assist users to convert one format to another, including videos, audios, documents, images etc. I have had introduced a method to convert mov to flash, in addition, this excellent program can extract MP3 audio file as well. Here we walk through the whole operation in detail.

Step 1. Loading MOV Video Files

Load .mov video format on this free program, there are two options for you to choose, if your QuickTime video is on the local computer, then choosing "Choose a local file" option; or if the video file is online, then choose "or download it from", what you should do is copy-and-paste the URL of QuickTime video file on the text box.

Step 2. Choose Input/Out Format

Choose "Extracted audio only (.mp3)" as your output format from its drop down menu.

Step 3. Convert MOV to MP3

Click-on "Convert" button to let it convert QuickTime video for you. And now, what you should do is just for waiting this program does the job for you, if you would like to receive the MP3 file, a checkbox "Send a download link to my email (optional)" is good feature for you.

Method TWO - iTunes to Extract Audio files

You will notice that if you convert a compressed audio file to uncompressed one, the sound quality wouldn't be reduced; however, when converting between compressed audio formats such as MP3 and AAC, you may notice a reduction in the sound quality.

With iTunes, you can convert a song to a different file formats while keeping a copy of the original. Let's take one for instant; you can save a copy of an uncompressed audio file like AIFF or WAV to a compressed format like MP3, AAC or Apple Lossless Encoder.

1. Open iTunes Preferences.

Windows: Choose Edit > Preferences.

Mac: Choose iTunes > Preferences.

2. Click the General button, then click the Importing Settings button in the second section of the window.

3. From the Import Using pop-up menu, choose the encoding format that you want to convert the song to, then click OK to save the settings.

4. Select one or more songs in your library, then from the Advanced menu, choose one of the following (The menu item changes to show what's selected in your Importing preferences):

  •  Create MP3 version

  •  Create AAC version

  •  Create AIFF version

  •  Create WAV version

  •  Create Apple Lossless version

iTunes will create a converted copy of the file in your iTunes Library based on your iTunes preferences.
